Tune in if you want to live

Tune in of you want to live

The battle for the future of humankind will be fought tonight and, hopefully, the same time next week.

David Nutter is to direct the pilot of The Sarah Connor Chronicles for Warner Bros. TV, to air on the Fox network, Fall 2007. Based on a script by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds writer), which he reportedly stumbled onto when he appeared at the Comic-Con this year. Nutter has directed episodes of Smallville, Supernatural, and Without a Trace.

Nutter says he is up to the task of following in blockbuster director James Cameron's footsteps, even with a smaller TV budget; "It's important for me to live up, as best I can, to the bar that Jim Cameron set," Nutter told Variety. "It has to carry as much of a punch."

The Terminator series is one of the most successful film franchises of all time, with the three movies collectively grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Chronicles will follow the events taking place after Terminator 2 Judgment Day, when Sarah Connor and her son, John, go underground, hiding from authorities and waiting for the chance to strike at the evil supercomputer SkyNet.

Non of the movie cast members (Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong or Arnold Schwarzenegger) are involved in the new series in any capacity. Casting is scheduled to begin immediately, and filming is set to take place early next year in Mexico.

Twelve of the pilots Nutter has directed have been picked up for series runs, including the James Cameron-produced Dark Angel. Nutter will also serve as executive producer on the series, along with longtime Terminator producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar.

And now for some 'flipside'

We've reported on rumours around this television series. We heared it was coming and debated it to length on our (and other) forums... and still they persue this idea of Sarah and John (and we quote) "waiting for the chance to strike at the evil supercomputer SkyNet".

All we know is that the T2 movie ended with Sarah believing that they'd won; "It's over!", she said, didn't she. And sure... theres this T3 movie that eventually came along, but Sarah does not know that? The timeline between the ending of T2 and T3 can never contain any infliction of any kind of future robot or warrior. And yes... we also know Sarah didn't really believe it all... or she would have had a back-up plan in her cascet!

Then theres this other 'remark'. Around november 2005 C2's senior vice president of development, James Middleton, commented on the series with the following: "Sarah Connor has the weight of the world on her shoulder, and she also has to raise a 14-year-old son who may be the salvation of the world, not to mention fighting off some killer cyborgs from the future who will no doubt be making an appearance".

What the hell? Cyborgs from the future? This does not tie into the T3 movie. "You shouldn't exist!", to quote T3's John Connor.

Although TerminatorFiles is all behind any continuation of the Terminator saga, be it through movies or TV series, we employ to the television producers to keep to the time- and storyline as much as possible. Of course we can imagine it not to be very entertaining if Sarah or John never ever get to see a Terminator or any other character from the future, just so the actions and remarks in T3 can be explained.

Then again... do you really think they will listen to the fans? Its probably another attempt at cashing in on the series?! Or, as far as Hollywood goes these days, anything is possible! We'll just have to see whatever they come up with. As far as TerminatorFiles concerned, we'll stay true to any- and everything Terminator related, even if it means a possible disfunct TV-series.

Thanx to forum-members 'Timerider84' and 'V.limited' for their topic refresh ;).
