Furlong joins Arnie for T3

Variety reports Furlong, who starred as the teenage leader of a future rebel army in "Terminator 2: Judgement Day," has signed on to reprise his role alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Terminator 3."

Although no director has been hired to fill in for James Cameron, commitments from Schwarzenegger and Furlong give the producers two of the four principals from "T2."

Variety said it is still not known whether Linda Hamilton will return as Furlong's mother, or whether Robert Patrick, who just signed on to replace David Duchovny in "X Files," will return as the evil shape-changing cyborg.

Variety said the new screenplay is believed to revolve around a war between man and machine, a crisis that Schwarzenegger's and Furlong's characters theoretically prevented in "T2."
