Born on the 5th of May 1940, New York, N.Y., USA... Lance graduated on the Actors Studio, never cast as the handsome hero, but spent most of his early career playing killers and other 'heavies'.

His film debut came in It Ain't Easy (1972), but his big film debut was three years later in Dog Day Afternoon (1975).

He worked in a number of high profile movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and Damien: Omen II (1978), but he became well known for his role of Astronaut Wally Schirra in The Right Stuff (1983).

A close friend of Director James Cameron, Lance had a small role in The Terminator (1984), originally cast as the Terminator himself, but later getting the role as Vukovich.

Later on he had a bigger, better role as the android Bishop in the classic sci-fi movie Aliens (1986). He repeated this role as Bishop II in the highly forgettable dog Alien3 (1992) and in the scifi hash Aliens vs. Predator (2004).

Lance played actor Charles Bronson in the Television movie Reason for Living: The Jill Ireland Story (1991).

In 1996, he entered the world of television stardom in the 'Chris Carter' series called "Millennium" (1996). In 'Millenium', Lance is Frank Black, retired FBI agent, who has the ability to get inside the minds of killers and see what a killer sees.
